This Aluminum Heat Sink is made of high-quality aluminum material, featuring excellent thermal conductivity and efficient heat dissipation performance. With lightweight structure and good corrosion resistance, it is widely used in LED lighting, power supplies, electronic devices and other cooling systems. We support customized processing to meet different application requirements.
An aluminum heat sink is a passive thermal management component designed to dissipate heat away from electronic devices, ensuring optimal operating temperatures and preventing overheating. Made from aluminum due to its excellent thermal conductivity, lightweight properties, and cost-effectiveness, heat sinks work by increasing the surface area in contact with air, allowing heat to be transferred away from critical components such as CPUs, power transistors, LEDs, and other heat-generating electronics.
The principle behind heat sink operation is simple yet effective: heat generated by an electronic component conducts into the heat sink base, then travels through fins or pins that maximize surface area, where it is dissipated into the surrounding air through natural convection or forced airflow from fans.
Aluminum is the preferred material for heat sinks due to its exceptional combination of properties:

A versatile, heat-treatable alloy offering good thermal conductivity (approximately 167 W/m·K), excellent machinability, and strong corrosion resistance. Ideal for CNC machined heat sinks requiring complex geometries and tight tolerances.
Often used for extruded heat sinks, this alloy offers slightly higher thermal conductivity (approximately 200 W/m·K) than 6061, with excellent surface finish after anodizing. It is widely used for medium to high-volume extruded heat sink profiles.
A commercially pure aluminum alloy with the highest thermal conductivity among common heat sink materials (approximately 230 W/m·K). It is soft and highly formable, making it ideal for applications requiring maximum heat transfer with simple geometries.
For applications demanding maximum thermal conductivity, we also offer copper heat sinks. Copper provides approximately 400 W/m·K thermal conductivity but is heavier and more expensive than aluminum.
To enhance thermal performance, durability, and appearance, we offer a range of surface treatments:
Anodizing creates a protective oxide layer that enhances corrosion resistance and improves surface emissivity, which can increase radiative heat dissipation by up to 25% compared to bare aluminum. Black anodizing provides maximum emissivity and a professional aesthetic.
A thicker, harder anodized coating that provides excellent wear resistance for heat sinks exposed to mechanical abrasion or harsh environments. Ideal for industrial and military applications.
A thin, conductive coating that provides corrosion protection without significantly affecting thermal performance. Suitable for applications requiring electrical grounding or where anodizing may interfere with conductivity.
For applications where cost is critical and environmental exposure is minimal, we offer bare aluminum heat sinks with a clean, machined finish.

Aluminum heat sinks are essential components across a wide range of industries where thermal management is critical to performance and reliability:
CPUs, GPUs, power amplifiers, gaming consoles, laptops, tablets, and smartphone components require efficient heat dissipation to maintain performance and extend product lifespan.
High-power LEDs generate significant heat that must be managed to maintain light output, color consistency, and longevity. Custom LED heat sinks are designed for various form factors including COB arrays, street lights, grow lights, and automotive lighting.
Inverters, rectifiers, power supplies, motor drives, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) generate substantial heat during operation. Custom heat sinks ensure reliable operation in demanding industrial environments.
Base stations, RF amplifiers, 5G equipment, and networking hardware require robust thermal management to maintain signal integrity and system reliability in outdoor and indoor installations.
Electric vehicle battery management systems, onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, motor controllers, and infotainment systems rely on custom heat sinks for reliable operation under harsh automotive conditions.
Welding equipment, laser systems, industrial computers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and automation controllers require durable heat sinks capable of withstanding demanding industrial environments.
Diagnostic imaging equipment, patient monitors, surgical lasers, and medical power supplies require reliable thermal management to ensure patient safety and equipment accuracy.
Solar inverters, wind turbine controllers, and energy storage systems depend on efficient heat sinks to maintain performance in outdoor environments with wide temperature variations.
Avionics, radar systems, military communication equipment, and satellite components require lightweight, high-performance heat sinks capable of withstanding vibration and extreme temperature conditions.
A leading commercial lighting manufacturer required a custom heat sink for a high-power LED luminaire. The fixture was designed for outdoor stadium lighting, operating at 500W total power, and needed to maintain LED junction temperatures below 85°C in ambient temperatures up to 50°C. The heat sink also needed to withstand wind loads, resist corrosion from outdoor exposure, and fit within a compact form factor.
Polestar Metal collaborated with the client’s thermal engineering team to design and manufacture a custom extruded aluminum heat sink from 6063 alloy. The design featured:
Using precision CNC machining, we machined the extruded profile to exact dimensions, added mounting holes with tight tolerances, and performed 100% dimensional inspection.
Thermal performance was validated through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation during design and confirmed with thermal imaging tests on production samples. We provided full inspection reports and thermal test data for customer approval.
The client received 2,500 units in the first production run with zero defects. The custom heat sink maintained LED junction temperatures below 82°C under worst-case operating conditions, exceeding the required specification. The solution reduced the overall fixture weight by 15% compared to previous designs, eliminated the need for active cooling fans, and led to a long-term production agreement for the entire LED fixture product line.
